Mercer County Board Tables Action On School Resource Officer For Joy; Can’t Afford Their Share For Position

The Mercer County Board has tabled action on funding for a full-time school resource officer for Mercer County Junior High in Joy. Under the proposal, the school district would fund 75-percent of the position with the county picking up the other 25-percent or just under $17,000.  But county board members said earlier this week they can’t afford that amount.  Mercer County Sheriff Dusty Terrill spoke with WRMJ on the issue.

Under the proposal, the officer would work 40 hours per week at the school during the school year and outside of the school year would be involved in prisoner transports and Matherville contract policing.
