The Mercer County Board votes down a county wheel tax ordinance. The action taken last night after six residents speak out against the proposal, including 86 year old Marvin Smith of Aledo.
The vote was 5-3 against, with Bob Flowers of Alexis opposed.
In addition to Flowers voting against, also casting no votes last night were Jake Frieden, Ron Fullerlove, Dena Hawn, and Carlos Sarabasa. Gary Gregg, Steve Moreland and Buck Rind voted in favor. Sarabasa, who serves as county board chairman, says the issue could be brought up again, but he won’t do it. He says it will have to come from another county board member.
