A full-time school resource officer is being considered for Mercer County Junior High in Joy. The subject was a discussion item among the Mercer County Board’s Law Enforcement Committee late month. Under the agreement, the school district would pay for 75-percent of the cost of salary and benefits with the county picking up the other 25-percent or just under $17,000. The county board must approve the agreement. The officer would work 40 hours per week at the school during the school year and outside of the school year would be involved in prisoner transports and Matherville contract policing, which create revenue to offset expenses.
