Week 8 of the high school football season kicked off on Friday night and the Mercer County Golden Eagles (5-3) dropped a decision to Princeville 35-7. Mercer County was out-gained 323-91 by the Princes, who moved to 8-0. The Orion Chargers remained unbeaten by shutting out Bureau Valley 57-0. Quarterback Dawson Schulenberg was 14-14 for 227 yards and threw for 4 touchdowns. Rockridge secured their playoff spot by edging Morrison 37-25. Cody Bush and Niko Zarlatanes each accounted for three Rocket touchdowns. The Sherrard Tigers dropped a close one, 7-6 to Riverdale. Sherrard’s lone touchdown was scored by Sam Kissner.
