The identities have been released of the two drivers killed in a head-on collision on U.S. 67 in lower Rock Island County. The deceased are 35 year old Terrence T. McClay of Aledo and 35 year old Dennis A. Swinford Jr. of Sherrard, according to the Rock Island County Coroner’s office. They were both pronounced dead at 8:32 p.m. Tuesday night. A preliminary report by the Rock Island County Sheriff’s Department reveals that a northbound vehicle entered the southbound lane and struck an oncoming car head-on. Three other vehicles could not avoid the crash at the time of impact. Four other people sustained serious injuries from the accident and were taken to area hospitals. Their names have not been released. U.S. 67 was closed in both directions for several hours as a result of the collison.
