Aledo Receiving Nearly $500,000 In COVID Relief Funding

The City of Aledo receiving $466,000 in Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery funding. Mayor Chris Hagloch says the city council must determine how to use that money.

Western Illinois Congresswoman Cheri Bustos announcing over the weekend that more than $762,000 in coronavirus recovery funding allocated to villages in Illinois’ 17th Congressional District remains unclaimed. 15 communities were identified in a press release including $88,000 for New Boston and $80,000 for Sherrard. Bustos says local governments will have through September 30 to claim these funds through the State of Illinois’ NEU Portal. After that date, the funds will be surrendered and allocated on a per-capita basis to other local governments.
Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery Funds can be used to cover revenue losses and the costs of responding to the COVID-19 public health emergency or to its negative economic impacts on households, small businesses, impacted industries, essential workers, and the communities hardest-hit by the crisis. These funds can also be used to invest in building, maintaining, or upgrading water, sewer, and broadband infrastructure.

Municipalities do not have to submit plans for fund usage in order to make a claim. Claiming funds will not impact eligibility for other tax credits or benefits owed to the municipality.
