Weaver No Problem With Youth Advisory Council Member Involved In Walkout Movement

State Senator Chuck Weaver

Local State Senator Chuck Weaver has not been involved in any of the debate concerning a student walkout in the Mercer County School District, but one of the students on his Youth Advisory Council—junior Lauren Morby—has been active in the movement.  Weaver says he’s okay with that and says students don’t have to be politically in-line with him to be on his council, which involves nominations from high school principals in his 37th State Senate District.

The walkout—planned for March 14th as a result of the mass shooting in Parkland, Florida last month–is now off at Mercer County High School.  An assembly will be held instead. Morby and fellow organizer Cal Bigham have stated their call to action is not about gun control, but better mental health resources, more secure schools and more careful background checks on gun owners.
