Mercer County has 715 farms.  That’s down 70 from 2007, but those farms make up 251,998 acres and have a crop value of $178-million. The Mercer County livestock industry equates to a $30-million value.  John Longley—a Mercer County farmer and District 3 Director for the Illinois Soybean Association shared those numbers this week.

Longley says transportation issues are getting much attention by the Illinois Soybean Association.

He says two projects in Illinois are of immediate concern.

Longley spoke to the Aledo Economic Development Advisory Committee on Wednesday night.
