A Wisconsin man has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor battery charge stemming from an incident at Aledo’s Dollar General last spring. 49-year-old Miguel Angel Valadez Cortes of Beloit was placed on 24-months’ probation and fined $500 Monday in Mercer County Circuit Court. He must also serve 60 days in the Mercer County Jail with credit for time served. A surrender date was set for Dec. 1.
Cortes was arrested May 27. He originally faced felony charges of aggravated battery in a public place and unlawful restraint along with a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct. The allegations involved a woman in the store. Testimony in court indicated Cortes was serving as a Dollar General truck driver at the time of his arrest.
