Mercer County Search and Rescue (MCSAR) is inviting the community to support their mission at the upcoming Fiesta Night Fundraiser on Saturday, February 22. The event, held in the basement of the VFW in Aledo from 4 to 7 p.m., aims to raise funds for crucial equipment, including new radios and potential mobile units.
The fundraiser, organized by VFW Post 1571 Auxiliary President Tammy Friedel, is a testament to the community’s commitment to supporting emergency response efforts. Friedel, along with members of MCSAR, recognized the financial challenges of equipping volunteers with necessary tools for search and rescue operations. With the help of donated items from Luebbe’s in Andalusia, the event was created to provide much-needed financial assistance.
Attendees will enjoy a delicious taco meal featuring three tacos with rice and beans for just $10 per plate. Additional donations are welcomed to help reach fundraising goals. The event also coincides with King of Hearts Night at the VFW, adding to the evening’s entertainment.
MCSAR, established 13 years ago by Sheriff Tom Thompson, has grown to 44 trained volunteers who assist law enforcement with lost person searches, evidence recovery, and public safety at community events like the Mercer County Fair and Rhubarb Fest. Their dedicated team often works in challenging conditions, including night searches in rural areas.
“This fundraiser is a great opportunity for the community to see what we do and help us continue our mission,” said MCSAR member Gary Heard. “We rely on these fundraisers to ensure we have the equipment we need.”
