Sherrard Beats Kewanee, Wins School-Record 24th Game

Sherrard (24-3) defeated Kewanee (14-15) 52-41 at Brockman Gym in Kewanee Tuesday.

The Tigers trailed just once in the game, 8-7 in the first quarter. Sherrard scored the final basket of the opening period to take a 9-8 lead. The Tigers led the rest of the way. It was 24-14 at halftime and 39-23 at the end of the third quarter.

Rylan Carton poured in 24 points in the win. He scored Sherrard’s first 13 points of the game. Carter Brown added 11 for the Tigers.

Catrelle Reed scored 16 points to pace the Boilermakers in the loss.

With the win, Sherrard set a new school record for single-season wins in boys basketball with 24. The 1991-92 team, which advanced to the state tournament, and the 1995-96 team, which won a sectional championship, each won 23 games.
