Downers Grove North survived a late Sherrard rally to defeat the Tigers 58-55 in the inaguaral Quad City vs Suburban Shootout at United Township High School in East Moline on Saturday afternoon.
Sherrard took its only lead of the game, 11-10, in the first quarter before the Trojans answered witha 13-0 run to take their largest lead of the game, 23-11, midway through the second quarter. The Tigers then closed the first half on a 14-3 run and trailed 26-25 at halftime.
Downers Grove North opened the second half, making three straight three-pointers to extend its advantage to 35-25. Sherrard rallied to tie the game 41-41 at the end of the third quarter.
Trailing 57-50 in the final minute of the game, Sherrard scored five straight points to pull within 57-55 and had a three-point attempt that missed with under five seconds remaining that would have given the Tigers the lead.
Jacob Vroman led DGN with 17 points off the bench. Owen O’Reilly added 15 points for the Trojans.
Carter Brown netted a game-high 22 points for the Tigers. Brylan Bender scored 12 points and Nolan Kline pitched in with 10 in the loss.
Sherrard has lost back-to-back games for the first time since the 2023-24 season.
