Mercer County (2-0) outlasted Ridgewood (0-1) to defeat the defending 1A softball state champions 8-7 in nine innings Saturday.
Elsie Cook delivered the walk-off hit for the Golden Eagles, breaking a 7-7 tie in the bottom of the ninth inning. Natalie Thomson went 4-5 with a home run and two RBI in victory.
Alivia Gillespie earned the win in the pitcher’s circle after throwing 6.2 scoreless innings in relief.
