Rockridge held on late to remain unbeaten and defeat Rock Island 5-4 in softball on Tuesday.
Trailing 1-0 in the top of the third inning, the Rockets (3-0) took the lead when three runs scored on a single by Bri Schlapkohl, where a two-base error was committed in the Rock Island outfield. The Rockets extended the lead to 4-1 with an RBI single by Kayley Schlapkohl in the top of the fourth inning.
Rock Island (1-1) cut into the lead with a two-run homer off the bat of Hailey Hansen in the bottom of the fifth inning, pulling within one run at 4-3.
Rockridge added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning with back-to-back doubles by Emilee Black and Bri Schlapkohl, extending the lead to 5-3.
The Rocks plated a run in the bottom of the seventh inning with a solo home run by Daniella Leahy.
Bri Schlapkohl was the winning pitcher for Rockridge, allowing four runs in seven innings.
