The Sherrard School District is starting a program designed to give high school students interested in pursuing careers in education a head start.
The Grow Your Own Teacher program will begin at the school next year. It’s a two-year program that offers students the opportunity to take dual-credit education-based courses.
In the first year of the program, students will take Intro to Education as juniors. Then, as seniors, they will enroll in a psychology and a sociology class.
Sherrard School District Superintendent Carl Johnson says the program is a great fit at Sherrard.
Johnson says 10 students will take part in the program next school year.
