Bureau Valley High School has hired Pat Elder to be its next varsity football coach.
Elder, who is leaving Ridgewood after three seasons leading the Spartans in 8-man football, was officially hired at Wednesday’s Board of Education meeting.
In 23 years of varsity football coaching experience, Elder has amassed a 161-85 record with stops at four programs. He’s coached at Winchester, Sherrard, Richmond-Burton and Ridgewood. Elder has qualified for the playoffs 18 times and has finished state runner-up twice, with Richmond-Burton in 4A in 2012 and with Ridgewood in 8-man football in 2023.
Elder went 28-7 in three seasons at Ridgewood. He led Sherrard to a 44-26 record in seven seasons with the Tigers from 2000-06.
