Springfield, IL — Evelyn Wilbur, a standout ninth-grader from Orion High School, had the unique opportunity to experience a day in the Illinois House of Representatives as a Page for a Day on Wednesday. Invited by State Representative Dan Swanson (R-Alpha), Evelyn observed the legislative process up close, gaining insight into the inner workings of state government.
“I was glad to have Evelyn here with us in Springfield to get a firsthand look at how state government works,” Swanson remarked. “She got to meet with legislators, tour the Capitol, and see the workings of the House of Representatives up close.”
An exemplary student with a 4.0 GPA, Evelyn is well-known at Orion High School for her involvement in a wide array of extracurricular activities. She is a high honor roll student who participates in golf, band, choir, and student council. Evelyn is also an active member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Culinary and Robotics clubs, the drama club, and the Orion Gray Matters Collective, a group dedicated to raising awareness about mental health.
Beyond school, Evelyn is deeply committed to community service. She volunteers with the American Legion Auxiliary, performs with the Orion Community Band, and contributes her time to both the Orion Area Food Pantry and Riverbend Food Pantry, reflecting a strong dedication to helping others in her community.
