A New Windsor man facing attempted murder charges has been ruled unfit to stand trial.
45-year-old Michael Licht appeared in Mercer County Circuit Court last week, where a judge ruled that he was unfit to stand trial following a fitness evaluation and ordered him to be remanded to the Illinois Department of Human Services.
Licht was arrested in August when the Mercer Sheriff’s Department responded to a 911 call at a residence in New Windsor. According to a press release from the sheriff’s department, deputies found Licht covered in blood with multiple lacerations on their way to the scene. Then, upon arriving at the scene, they located a woman with a laceration.
Licht is charged with a Class X felony of attempted first-degree murder, a Class 3 felony of aggravated battery/great bodily harm, and a Class A misdemeanor of battery.
He will return to court on Jan. 20 for a status hearing.
