Mercer County won a sectional championship in Class 1A girls track and field in Aledo Wednesday.
The Golden Eagles scored 103 points to finish 10 points ahead of second-place Lowpoint-Washburt, which scored 93. It’s the first sectional title for the program since 2015.
Mercer County’s state qualifiers are Helen Baldwin and Sarah Hofmann in the pole vault, Molly Hofmann and Leah Collison in the high jump, Kyla Blaser in the triple jump, Molly Hofmann and Alayna Mitchell in the 100-meter hurdles, Mitchell in the 300-meter hurdles, Emalyn MIllar in the 3200, the 4×100 relay (Molly Hofmann, Mitchell, Sarah Hofmann, Kaitlyn Frieden), and the 4×400 relay (Blaser, Frieden, Sophia Hodges, Mitchell).
Rockridge took sixth place at the 1A Rockridge Sectional with 56 points. Fulton scored 124 points to claim the sectional title in Edgington.
Rockridge’s state qualifiers are Kenzie Meyer in the pole vault, Leah DeCook in the high jump, Taylor Freyermuth in the long jump, the 4×200 relay (DeCook, Aryanna Stahr, Freyermuth, Keaten Needham), and the 4×400 relay (DeCook, Meyer, Freyermuth, Needham.
Sherrard finished tied for fourth at the 2A Rock Falls Sectional with 65 points. Metamora earned the sectional championship by scoring 98.5 points.
Sherrard’s state qualifiers are Jasmine McDaniel in the discus, Cami Anderson in the high jump, Aliza Dominique in the pole vault, the 4×400 relay (Evelyn Weakly, Beth Churchill, Anderson, Anna Churchill), and the 4×800 relay (Kylie Mathis, Weakley, Beth Churchill, Anna Churchill).
