Today’s Senior Spotlight takes us to United High School, where WRMJ’s Terry James sat down with Class of 2025 graduate Dylan Davis—an accomplished student with a bright future in the world of nuclear engineering.
Dylan’s high school career was filled with academic excellence and extracurricular engagement. A four-year member of the United High School Math Team, Dylan qualified for state competition each year, an achievement he’s especially proud of. He also participated in band all four years and joined the Scholastic Bowl team as a senior.
“I’ve always been drawn to math,” Dylan shared. “Even when others didn’t like it, I stuck with it—it’s what I enjoy.”
That passion is taking Dylan to Missouri University of Science and Technology, where he plans to pursue a master’s degree in nuclear engineering. He’s already considering international research opportunities, including a potential internship in France focused on nuclear fusion.
As Dylan explains it, nuclear engineers work with power plants, medical technologies like CT scans, and even cancer treatments. “It’s becoming more common now,” he said. “Whether it’s energy or medicine, nuclear tech has a role in improving lives.”
When asked about artificial intelligence and its growing impact, Dylan sees AI as a useful tool—especially in STEM fields like his own. “It’ll be a great helper,” he said. “Hopefully more right than wrong.”
While he’s unsure where he’ll land long-term, Dylan hopes to start his career near Missouri and eventually settle somewhere affordable with good career opportunities. And for younger students wondering how to find their path, Dylan’s advice is simple: “Follow what you like. If it’s art, computers, science—whatever—stick with it and build from there.”
With a head for science and a heart for innovation, Dylan Davis is set to leave a mark far beyond the halls of United High School. Congratulations, Dylan, and best of luck as you launch into a future powered by purpose.
