Lavota B. Armstrong – Graveside Services 8/27/22

Lavota B. Armstrong, 94 of rural Keithsburg, Illinois, died Monday, August 22, 2022 at Mercer Manor in Aledo, Illinois. Visitation is 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, August 27, at the Keithsburg First Christian Church. Graveside services will follow in the Greenmound Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the Keithsburg First Christian Church. Lavota was born June 7, 1928 between Seaton and Keithsburg to William and Mamie Reitman Waugh. She graduated from Aledo High School in 1946. Lavota married Rex Armstrong on May 1, 1948 in Aledo. He died October 3, 1979.

She was a homemaker and assisted her husband in the operation of the Joy Service Station. For over 35 years, she was a church organist at the New Boston United Methodist Church and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Keithsburg. Lavota taught the organ for many years and played for funerals and weddings throughout the Westmer area.

Lavota was a member of the Keithsburg First Christian Church. She enjoyed making stationary, walking, reading, and especially being with her family.

Survivors include her four sons, Royce (Linda) Armstrong of Lucedale, Mississippi, Donald Armstrong of Honolulu, Hawaii, Jim (Jeanie) Armstrong of Yulee, Florida, and Larry (Lori Neally) Armstrong of Muscatine, Iowa; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; one sister, Iris (Gerald) Paulsen of Aledo; two brothers, Bradley Waugh of Neponset, Illinois, and William Waugh of Belvidere, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers.
