Harold M. Salmon – Services 11/3/22

Harold M. Salmon, 85 of Aledo, died Sunday, October 30, 2022, at the Genesis Medical Center, Aledo. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, November 3, at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo, with visitation prior to services beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Aledo Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Make A Wish Foundation, Alzheimer’s Association, or FurEver Friends. Services will be livestreamed on the Speer Funeral Home Facebook page.

Harold was born on May 1, 1937, in Millersburg, Illinois to James and Pearl (Belk) Salmon. He married Shirley Neill on February 4, 1956, in Aledo, Illinois.

Harold was a local and over-the-road truck driver, retiring in 1995. He started his career with Al’s Truck Line. He joined the Teamsters Local #371 and drove for several lines including: Wintz Companies, Carstensen Freight Lines, North Shore, and CW Transport. In his retirement, Harold enjoyed driving the Tooth Mobile and doing its maintenance. He also loved working on cars and was currently working on a 1959 Studebaker Lark. In his spare time, Harold enjoyed playing ping pong, bowling, and playing guitar. He loved playing the guitar in Church, his favorite being the New Year services at the Open Bible Church. Harold  was a devoted family man and enjoyed taking his family on trips to see other family members, where they would often go camping. He was a dog lover, especially his childhood dog named “Buster“ and another dog he had later in life named Buster as well as all his grand dogs.

Those left to cherish Harold’s memory include his wife, Shirley; children and spouses: Theresa and Patrick Beaird of Coal Valley, Tony and Kim Salmon of Oklahoma, Tina and Lance McCaw of Aledo, and Sam and Leslie Salmon of Aledo; a sister: Beulah Wright of Reserve, New Mexico; grandchildren: Amy and Charles Saunders, Shawn and Dana Kovacic, Dustin and Tara Erickson, Jackie and Jeremy Cheron, Jason and Rachel Beaird, Anthony and Khloe Beaird, Shannon and Jeff Scott, Jonathon and Liz Salmon, Tiana and Daniel Corwin, Lane McCaw, Sam Salmon, Jr., Cindy and Greg Hockenberry, Christopher and Melissa Gammon, Casey Peevy, Cody and Bre Mills, and Jettie Standridge; and 36 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Trudy Kovacic; and eight brothers and two sisters: Jasper, Orville, Marshall, Cecil, Jim, Floyd, Lily, Thomas, and Velva, and a brother in infancy.
