Aledo, IL – As the Relay for Life Radiothon returned to the airwaves of Farm Country 102.3 WRMJ, long-time supporter Todd Bennett of Diamond Ag took a moment to reflect on his company’s enduring commitment to the cause—and the deeply personal reasons that fuel it.
Speaking with WRMJ’s Terry James during the live broadcast, Bennett explained that Diamond Ag’s support of Relay for Life of Mercer County began years ago, even before the company itself was formed.
“We’ve always been involved with Relay for Life in our previous lives with the other organization that we were with,” Bennett shared. “When we started Diamond Ag, we wanted to continue that support locally. It’s a good program, and something we can do to give back to the community.”
Initially, their involvement wasn’t driven by personal experience. “At the beginning, it was just a couple growers’ wives who were involved. And then we got involved,” he said. But over the years, cancer struck close to home—impacting Bennett’s wife, daughter, and mother, all of whom have battled breast cancer.
That personal connection reshaped the company’s perspective on why supporting the Relay and the American Cancer Society is so vital.
“We saw firsthand how the American Cancer Society helped us get through it. All three family members benefited from the resources they offer. It made a real difference,” Bennett said.
When asked why local business support is so critical, Bennett emphasized the progress being made in cancer research and care. “The cancer world has made such strides in success. And it’s important we keep giving so that can continue,” he explained.
