Daniel L. Barnes, 79 of New Windsor, died Friday, June 26, 2026, at his home. There will be no public services. Cremation was accorded. Speer Funeral Home, Aledo, is assisting the family.
Daniel was born on November 4, 1946, in Terre Haute, Indiana, to Harrison D. and Barbara (Lueke) Barnes. He served his country in the United States Army in Viet Nam. Danny and Georgia Coslet were married after his service to his country ended.
Danny was a millwright, working in Terre Haute for Case IH, in Moline for Case New Holland and lastly for the Rock Island Arsenal. He was a member of the UAW Local 865 while working for Case New Holland. Danny believed in hard work and providing for his family. His family worked together on their home and farm. He enjoyed going to auctions and working on tractors with his son, Dale, and traveling the backroads with his wife, Georgia. Animals were important to Danny, and he especially enjoyed the cats and dogs at home. He was previously a member of the New Windsor and Viola American Legions.
Danny is survived by his wife, Georgia; son, Dale “Donkey” Barnes; son, Steve Barnes; stepbrother, Bill Bryant; and brother-in-law, Dan Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Donna Hatfield and Jean Reeves; and two stepsisters, Judy Wilson and Betty Chatham.
