Carl David ‘Dave’ Overturf – Services 1/27/25

Carl David “Dave” Overturf, 86 of New Windsor, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2025, in New Windsor surrounded by his family. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, January 26, at the Swedona Lutheran Church in Swedona, Illinois. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m., Monday, January 27, also at the Swedona Lutheran Church. Interment will be at the Swedona Lutheran Cemetery. Dave was born on September 1, 1938, in Moline, the son of Carl and Helen E. Nickel Overturf. He graduated from Sherrard High School with the Class of 1958. On September 5, 1959, he married the love of his life, Ruth Ann Zurcher, at the Swedona Lutheran Church. After 62 years of marriage, Ruth passed away on December 26, 2021.

Dave was first employed at Farmall before moving to the Mercer County Highway Department where he would eventually retire. In his spare time, he enjoyed collecting toy tractors, trapping, fishing, and junking.

He is survived by two daughters, Lori (Bud) Brodt of Sherrard and Cheryl (Dana) Powell of New Windsor; five grandchildren, Rhiannon (Ben) Daves, Courtney (Tony) Breeden, Riley (Robin) Powell, Isaac (Renee) Powell, and Dayton Powell; seven great grandchildren, Gary, Bryce, Zoe, Linkoln, Madilynn, Deacon, and Alexander; and one great-great grandchild, Ronin.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Overturf; parents, Carl and Helen Overturf; and 11 siblings.
