August Bench Trial Set In Sherrard Bus Driver DUI Case

A bench trial has been scheduled for next month in the case of a former Sherrard school bus driver charged in a DUI accident earlier this year. The driver–33 year old Dustin Leath of New Windsor–is accused of being under the influence of drugs and crashing into a tree along Illinois Route 17 last March. One student was on the bus and suffered non-life threatening injuries. The bench trial is set to begin on August 21st in Mercer County Circuit Court. Sherrard superintendent Alan Boucher tells WRMJ that Leath was a long-term sub for Sherrard and no longer drives for the district.
