New Downtown Aledo Mural Finished

A new public mural has been completed in downtown Aledo.

The artwork was done by 19-year-old muralist Maddie Dieters of Marion, Illinois. She was selected for the project, which is supported by the Illinois Art Council’s America’s 250th Public Art Grant, by Quad City Arts and the Windborn Group. Quad City Arts was selected as one of 20 Regional Arts Partners across the state to participate in the program, which is part of a statewide initiative celebrating Illinois in 2026

Dieters began working on the mural on the south side of 112 E. Main St. on June 16 and completed the project on Wednesday.

She says her design honors two female artists with ties to Aledo, Gertrude Abercrombie and Doris Lee.

The completed artwork will be unveiled on July 3 in conjunction with Aledo’s Independence Day celebrations.
