A tentative agreement has been reached in contract talks between the Mercer County School District and the union that represents its teachers.
After over two hours of discussion during the second meeting with a mediator, the two sides reached a deal on Monday night.
Mercer County Education Association spokesperson Monty Smith spoke with WRMJ Monday night.
MCEA and the Mercer County School District released a joint statement saying “Mercer County School District & the MCEA negotiations teams are pleased to announce a tentative agreement has been reached for a successor contract. The next step is the tentative agreement will head to the MCEA for ratification, and then, the Board of Education for formal approval. Details to follow.
This new contract rewards licensed educators for their hard work in our classrooms while remaining responsible to local taxpayers and the long-term financial health of the district. We are proud of our collaborative work and look forward to formal adoption. ”
The previous deal expired June 30.
The first day of school in the Mercer County School District is Thursday.
