The 2025 Mercer County Fair isn’t just about rides and livestock—it’s also a place where veterans can connect with local support services. Jay Doherty with the Mercer County Veterans Assistance Commission (VAC) is on-site all week in the Merchants Building, offering resources and a warm welcome to those who’ve served.
Doherty and his colleague Rachel will be available through Saturday from noon to 7 p.m., ready to answer questions and offer guidance to local veterans. “We’ve brought quite a bit of literature with us and we’re here to answer any questions that you might have,” Doherty said. “We’d love to be able to take care of you.”
Decked out in patriotic red, white, and blue—thanks to Rachel’s decorating touch—the VAC booth is a visible reminder of the community’s appreciation for its veterans. “We want to tell them welcome home,” Doherty added. “Stop on by—we’d love to take care of you. No charge.”
For those who can’t make it to the fair, the VAC office at the Mercer County Courthouse remains open during regular hours throughout the week. The Commission provides services such as claims assistance, transportation coordination, and access to other veteran-related benefits.
