The New Boston Volunteer Ambulance Service will be ending its operations next week, according to a press release.
The final day of operations will be July 14 due to a lack of staff. Starting July 15, emergency ambulance services in New Boston will be provided by Elite Ambulance Service based on a contract between the New Boston-Eliza Fire Protection District and the Mercer County Ambulance Committee. Elite Ambulance Service is dispatched out of Aledo.
New Boston-Eliza Fire Protection District Chief Michael DeFrieze says he’s concerned about the longer response times.
The New Boston-Eliza Fire Protection District has arranged to make volunteer EMT training available in the fall in an effort to continue providing emergency ambulance services.
The New Boston Volunteer Ambulance Service has provided emergency services for 50 years.
