Leaving Cambridge High School and the Ridgewood football program was a difficult decision for Pat Elder.
Last week, Elder was hired as Bureau Valley High School’s next football coach and accepted a teaching position at the school, which means he’ll depart from Cambridge High School at the end of the school year, where he served as Athletic Director, along with high school football coaching duties with the Ridgewood co-op.
Elder led Ridgewood to a 28-7 record in the program’s first three seasons in 8-man football from 2022-24, including a state runner-up finish in 2023.
He says he was treated great at Cambridge, and it was hard to leave.
Elder was the head football coach at Sherrard from 2000-06. The upcoming season will be his 25th as a varsity football coach.
Elder is an Alexis High School graduate.
He’ll join Sportsline Saturday morning at 9 on WRMJ.
