Rockridge (13-3, 4-1 TRAC West) beat West Central (13-3, 9-0 LTC) 6-4 in a battle of two state-ranked softball teams in Edgington Wednesday.
The Rockets opened the scoring on an RBI bunt single by Baylee Kelly in the bottom the second inning. Rockridge added five runs in the fourth to extend its lead to 6-0. The Heat responded with a run in the top of the fifth and plated three runs in the seventh. West Central brought the go-ahead run to the plate with two outs in the seventh inning, but ran into an out on the bases to end the game.
Kelly went 2-3 with two RBI, and Madelyn David was 3-4 with an RBI in the win. Taylor Dieterich was the winning pitcher for Rockridge, allowing four runs in seven innings.
Rylie Ferguson went 3-3 at the plate with a home run for West Central. Addie Seitz took the loss in the pitcher’s circle, allowing six runs in six innings.
