Dean Marvin Green, 81 of New Windsor, IL, passed away on Monday, June 17, 2024, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Greg Williamson in Hudson, WI. There are no services. A private burial will be held at a later date at the Onieda Cemetery in Onieda, IL, where he will be laid to rest next to his wife, Joyce.
Dean was born August 20, 1942, in Aledo, IL, the son of Marvin James Green and Ethel Sackfield Green. He attended Winola High School in Viola, IL, then enlisted in the Navy in August, 1959, where he served on a ship at Pearl Harbor called the USS Frontier. He was honorably discharged in August, 1963. Dean married Joyce Garrett on November 16, 1973, at the Calvary Lutheran Church in New Windsor, IL. He was a member of the Mercer County VFW Post 1571 in Aledo.
Dean was a truck driver for many years, driving an 18-wheeler cross-country and back, along with helping out the farmers at harvest time. Family gatherings included lots of card games with cousins, aunts, and uncles. He loved to spend time at the river in New Boston, IL, with his family and friends.
Survivors include his daughter Sherri (Greg), Hudson, WI; step-daughter, Elaine (Kyle), Cambridge, IL; step-son, Eric (Melissa), Sherrard, IL; grandchildren, Daniel Berg (Lindsey), Jeffrey Berg, Gregory Berg (Zoe), Jared Greer, Ashley Hall (Doug), Kristin Helg, Allison Young, and Jacob Young; great grandchildren, Jae Berg and Josie Berg; an aunt, Seville Bivens, Keithsburg, IL; and a sister, Vicki Thorp, Springdale, AR. Other survivors include cousins, a niece, and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce; and a step-daughter, Deana Greer.
