Lyle “Bill” Eugene Kugler, 80 of Aledo, Illinois, was called to glory during his sleep in his home on Monday, November 20, 2023. The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 27, at Trinity Presbyterian Church of Aledo. Visitation is from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, November 26, at Trinity Presbyterian Church. Interment will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church or the Aledo American Legion Fallerans Post # 121. Lyle was born November 29, 1942, to Wayne and Mary Kugler in Muscatine, IA. After graduating from Aledo High School in 1961, he served in the Marines as part of VMA-242 based at Cherry Point, NC, and was stationed at Cherry Point, NC, and Iwakuni, Japan. In 2002 Lyle retired from Alcoa (now Arconic) Davenport Works, where he spent his 35-year career as a maintenance machinist.
He married Colleen Cook on April 8, 1972, in Aledo and they were married for 51 years.
Lyle was an avid genealogist and was active in the American Legion Post 121, and a regular volunteer at the Essley-Noble Museum in Aledo. He was a Boy Scout leader for Troop 427. Lyle was also a member of the Edwards River Science Club and Geodeland Earth Science Club. Lyle played in the Tuesday and Thursday night men’s bowling league for many years. He previously was a member Aledo Church of the Nazarene and later became a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church of Aledo.
Lyle was a devoted and loving husband to Colleen and treasured his children and grandchildren. Lyle was a man of integrity and kindness. His quiet manner and gentle spirit drew others to him. He loved spending time visiting with and helping people. He will be dearly missed.
Lyle is survived by his wife, Colleen; their four children, Marc (Lori) of London Mills, Rebecca (Neil) of Gladstone, Adam of Peoria, and Anna (Robert) of Kissimee, FL; several grandchildren; his sister, Mary K. Schoolen of Illinois City; and his cousin, Sandy Adams of Rock Island. Also surviving is his son from a previous marriage, Eric of Andalusia.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; twin sister, Lila; brothers, Sam and Richard “Dickie;” two sons from a previous marriage, Lyle, Jr., and Dave; and his cousin, Rosie Hess.
In John 11:25-26, Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.” Although we will miss him, we have comfort, through Christ, in Lyle’s salvation and new life given through grace in his faith in Jesus.
