Barbara J. David, 81 of Aledo, died Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at Unity Point Health, Rock Island, surrounded by her family’s love. Visitation is 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday, October 1, at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Private burial will be in Aledo Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the David Family.
Barbara was born on June 22, 1942, in Odon, Indiana, to Lester and Nancy Jane (Kincaid) Litwiler. She married Richard Lee David on September 1, 1962, in Cambridge, later celebrating their 50th anniversary with a renewal of vows in Aledo in 2012. Richard preceded her in death on January 31, 2013.
Barbara retired after many years in the printing industry, retiring from the Rio Printing Shop. She had also worked for the Aledo Times Record and in earlier years for Admirals of Galesburg. In her spare time, she enjoyed fishing, watching the Chicago Cubs and the Bears, and cooking. No one could make a better pie than Barbara. She cherished the time spent with her grandchildren and especially loved watching the great-grandchildren race go-carts at the Viola Boyz Backroad Speedway and play baseball. She never missed a tournament. Barbara also always had the luck when she played the slot machines or bought scratch-off tickets. Barbara loved animals, especially her canine companions, Duke, Molly, and Frankie.
Barbara’s memory will be cherished by her children: Les and Tammy David of Aledo, Tammy Cokel of Galva, and Betty Clark of Aledo; grandchildren: Chris and Justin Miller, Cassie and Jason Doherty, Danielle David, Crystal Malik, Dennis and Ashley Clark, Jr., and Stephanie Cokel; great-grandchildren: Jack, Selene, Karrigan, Cole, Kadence, Aliyah, Chandler, Nimrah, Brayden, Zendaya, and Zaire; great-great-grandchildren: Jensen, Ryott, and Nova. She is also survived by a brother, Donnie Litwiler and his daughters, Amy Schrader and Amber Alvarez and their families. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brothers, Lester and Larry Litwiler.
