Allan Fuhr, 81 of rural Edgington, Illinois, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, July 16, 2026, surrounded by his family. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m., Friday, July 24, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. in Moline, with Masonic services to follow at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 25, at Edgington Presbyterian Church. The burial will be at the Edgington Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Rockridge Foundation, Rockridge FFA, or a charity of your choice. He was born on November 6, 1944, in Muscatine, Iowa. Raised on the family farm near Edgington, he developed a lifelong love of agriculture and took great pride in being a farmer.
He graduated from Iowa State University with a B.S. in Ag Business and was an active member of the Alpha Chi Rho fraternity and served as VEISHEA Parade Chairman. Many of his fraternity brothers became lifelong friends, and together they enjoyed cheering on the Cyclones.
After graduation, he returned home to farm with his father, carrying on the family’s fifth-generation farming tradition. For nearly 60 years, Allan raised livestock, corn, and soybeans, taking deep pride in the land, the life he built around it, and preserving it for future generations. Allan built his home and farmed on the land that the Fuhr family homesteaded in 1843.
He served his community for many years as a volunteer firefighter and later as a trustee of the Andalusia/Edgington Fire Protection District. He was a proud member and past master of Andalusia Masonic Lodge No. 516, continuing a four-generation family tradition, and was also a lifelong member of the Rock Island County Farm Bureau and Edgington Presbyterian Church.
While farming was his life’s work, Allan and Janet also shared a passion for travel. They explored all 50 states, made numerous trips throughout Europe—including several memorable visits to Germany—and traveled to South America, Australia, and New Zealand.
Above all, Allan treasured his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose love, steady presence, and quiet strength touched those closest to him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Janet; his daughter, Elizabeth (Duncan) Van Ness; his sons, Phil (Dana) and GW (Michelle); his seven grandchildren, Grant (Nika), Julianna, Elle, Grayson, Graham Van Ness, Caelen, and Kinley; and his sister, Nancy Fuhr Cooksey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter T. Fuhr and Eva Powell Fuhr, and his older brother, Ernie.
