Darrell V. Askew, 64 of Oquawka, Illinois died unexpectedly in his sleep on Sunday, January 22, 2023. Visitation is at Keithsburg First Christian Church from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Friday, January 27, followed by a funeral service at noon. Cremation will be accorded after the service, with a private interment at Greenmound Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be left for the family. Dennison Funeral Home, Aledo, is handling arrangements.
Darrell was born January 13, 1959 in Aledo, Illinois, the son of George and Margaret Burnette Askew. He graduated from Westmer High School in 1977. On November 6, 1982, he married Joyce Cooper at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Keithsburg. They were married until Joyce passed away just 4 months ago on September 10, 2022. Darrell spent most of his life as a Deputy Sheriff. He had worked at Mercer County Sheriff Office and was currently with the Henderson County Sheriff Office as the Court Security Officer/Special Deputy. He had also served as a Keithsburg Police Officer, as well as volunteering on the Keithsburg and Oquawka Fire Departments. Darrell had worked at Cannon Bronze for several years. In his younger days, he enjoyed playing softball. In his free-time, he could be found in his garage working on squad cars. Darrell’s greatest joy was time spent with his grandkids…especially his pride and joy, Aubrie.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter: Terri Askew (Stephen Williams); grandchildren: Aubrie, Traycen, Jasmine, and Stephen, Jr.; brother: Arnold (Debi) Askew; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by an infant sister: Terrie Lynn; his parents; and wife.
