A driver reportedly falling asleep at the wheel led to a two-vehicle crash on Illinois Route 94 north of Aledo Wednesday. The Mercer County Sheriff’s Department says the driver fell asleep traveling southbound and crossed the center line, hitting another vehicle.
The vehicle that was hit caught fire. Both drivers were seriously injured in the collision. Names of the drivers are not being released at this time pending an update on their medical condition.
The Mercer County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Aledo Police Department, Aledo Fire Department, LifeFlight, and Genesis Ambulance.
