The IHSA Individual Wrestling State Tournament began Thursday at the State Farm Center in Champaign. Rockridge sophomore 126-pounder Jude Finch is into the semifinals after going 2-0 Thursday. Finch beat Shelbyville’s Calvin Miller 9-7 in overtime and then won his quarterfinal bout over IC Catholic’s Omar Samayoa 10-6. Finch (42-4) will take on Richmond-Burton’s Emmett Nelson (45-2) in the semifinals.
Sherrard senior 195-pounder Walker Anderson’s season came to an end after having to take a medical forfeit in the quarterfinals. Anderson broke his collarbone warming up for his quarterfinal match against Seneca’s Chris Puera. Anderson won his opening round match by pinfall in 39 seconds against Wyatt Dothager of Vanadlia. Anderson finishes the year 40-3.
Both of Orion’s state qualifiers – 120-pounder Luke Moen and 195-pounder Maddux Anderson – lost and are in wrestlebacks, as is Mercer County 170-pounder Bodie Salmon.
