Aledo City Council Finalizes Safe Routes To School Grant Application

The Aledo City Council puts the finishing touches on a Safe Routes to School grant application. Aldermen held a public hearing on the matter last night and approved moving the issue forward.  Essentially the project would connect the existing multi-use path along Illinois Route 17 down Southeast 8th Avenue and then across 6th street all the way to the Apollo and Mercer County Intermediate School campus says City Administrator Erin Knackstedt.

The city is seeking $173,583 and would be responsible for contributing just over $38,000. The grant is through the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program or ITEP.
