Lance Baker is trading in his baseball glove and golf clubs for electrical tools as he graduates from United High School. A four-year athlete and standout teammate, Lance has enjoyed his high school experience through camaraderie, sportsmanship, and skill development on and off the field. But it’s his plans after graduation that are sparking the most excitement.
Throughout high school, Lance was a pitcher and outfielder for the United baseball team, contributing to what he proudly calls their best season yet. “I’ve been pitching since freshman year,” he said. “It’s something I’ve put a lot into. We’ve worked hard as a team.” In the fall, Lance also represented his school on the golf course, showing calm under pressure and a steady approach—two traits he’s taking with him into the electrical trades.
He admits golf can be frustrating but says the fun of being with his teammates made it all worthwhile. “It’s a good mix. You get some tough shots, but you also get to laugh with the team,” he said.
Lance’s favorite class in school wasn’t in a textbook—it was hands-on. He took GABC electrical classes during his senior year and found a passion for wiring and problem-solving. “It just clicked,” he said. “I get it. It’s fun for me.” Now, he plans to pursue an electrical apprenticeship and dreams of eventually starting his own business in the trades.
His future may involve conduit, breakers, and panels, but Lance hasn’t ruled out a return to sports in some form. “I don’t think I’ll play after high school, but it’s definitely something I’ll miss,” he said. With a good head on his shoulders and a steady hand, Lance Baker is ready to power up a successful future—one wire at a time.
