Week 6: Newman Beats MERCO, Rockridge Downs Orion, Mon-Rose Overpowers Sherrard

Newman (5-1, 4-0 TRAC Rock) defeated Mercer County (3-3, 2-2 TRAC Rock) 29-16 on Homecoming for the Golden Eagles at George Pratt Memorial Field Friday.

Mercer County had an 8-7 lead at the end of the first quarter and held the advantage until the Comets struck on a 36-yard touchdown pass from Evan Bushman to Brady Williamson with 1:00 left in the first half, which put Newman ahead 13-8 at halftime. The Comets never trailed in the second half. Bushman was 6-11 for for 92 yards and two TDs in the win. Mercer County quarterback John Baldwin completed 9 of 25 passing attempts for 126 yards with one touchdown two interceptions. He carried the ball eight times for 57 yards in the loss. Newman clinched a share of the TRAC Rock division championship with the win.

Rockridge (4-2, 3-1 TRAC Rock) beat Orion (1-5, 0-4 TRAC Rock) 35-14 at Charger Field Friday.

The Rockets led 28-0 at halftime. Cullen Schwigen rushed for three TDs (5 yards, 45 yards and 47 yards) and connected with Baylen Leemans for a 79-yard passing TD. Jacob Freyermuth added a 70-yard TD run early in the third quarter to put Rockridge ahead 35-0 before Orion scored the final 14 points of the game.

Monmouth-Roseville (6-0, 4-0 TRAC Mississippi) crushed Sherrard (2-4, 2-2 TRAC Mississippi) 69-12 at Coach Dobry Field Friday.

The Titans led 35-0 at the end of the first quarter and were up 62-12 at halftime. Payton Thompson rushed for 95 yards and two TDs on four carries. He also returned a punt for a score in the win. Sherrard’s two touchdowns came on a 9-yard TD pass from Garrett Woodward to Harrison Curry and a 57-yard TD run by Lane Luxmore. Monmouth-Roseville clinched a share of the TRAC Mississippi Division with the win.
