Moviegoers in Mercer County have plenty to look forward to this summer, as the Aledo Opera House lines up an exciting schedule packed with blockbuster hits and family favorites.
Nathan Sipes with the Opera House joined WRMJ to share some of the highlights. “We’re super excited to be showing the new Fantastic Four movie right now, and the response has been great,” Sipes said. “It’s a Marvel film, so there’s already a lot of buzz around it.”

For families looking to beat the midweek slump, the Opera House is hosting a Wednesday series of DreamWorks classics through mid-September. Titles include Shrek, Shrek 2, Penguins of Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda, and Puss in Boots. “We just want to create a midweek moment for families to come together and enjoy a film in a great setting,” Sipes said.
Adding to the superhero streak, Man of Steel will hit the big screen for one week only beginning August 15. “People come up to me all the time with movie suggestions,” Sipes laughed. “Sometimes we can get the rights, and sometimes we can’t—it depends on how the film owners are marketing it.”
Sipes also noted that the theater has earned praise for its comfort and sound quality. “Whether you’re in the mezzanine or on the main floor, the seats are great, and people love the sound system,” he said.
With no major events on the calendar this weekend, it might be the perfect time for a spontaneous trip to the movies—or, as Sipes joked, maybe even a “surprise pop-up festival.”
