Scott Durbin was hired as the next Rockridge High School varsity softball coach at the district’s board of education meeting Monday night. Durbin has spent the last two season as the junior varsity coach for the Rockets.
Former Rockridge head coach John Nelson took over the Augustana College softball program in September after a nine-year run that saw the Rockets win four state championships and earn six state trophies.
Rockridge has won three state titles in a row and qualified for the state tournament in each of the last five seasons. By winning the 2023 2A state championship, Rockridge became the third school in IHSA history to win three consecutive softball state titles. No team has ever won four in a row.
The Rockets won an IHSA record 73 straight games from 2019-23. Over the past three seasons, Rockridge softball has amassed a 102-1 record.
