Rock Island (1-0) handed Rockridge (2-1) its first softball loss of the 2025 season in an 8-4 win in Edgington Tuesday.
The Rocks broke a 2-2 tie with four runs in the top of the fifth inning to take the lead for good. Rockridge committed four errors in the game, which led to four runs for Rock Island.
Ella DeJonghe led the Rocks at the plate, going 3-3 with a home run and two RBI. AJ Lincoln also drove in two runs in the win. Taylor Dieterich, Morgan Hofer and Charley Perkins each homered in the loss for Rockridge.
Maddie Carroll took the win in the pitcher’s circle, allowing two runs on three hits in five innings. She struck out seven batters.
Dieterich was tagged with the loss for the Rockets. She gave up six runs (four earned) over five innings.
