Riverdale (26-5) beat Mercer County (21-12) for a third time this season 6-3 in the semifinals of the IHSA 2A Brimfield Softball Regional on Thursday.
The Golden Eagles opened the scoring on a Payton Ruggles solo home run in the top of the second inning. Riverdale responded with four two-out runs in the bottom of the second to pull ahead 4-1. Mercer County answered with a two-run home run by Natalie Thomson in the top of the third to make it 4-3. That was the closest the Golden Eagles would get, as the Rams plated two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Riverdale advances to play Brimfield (29-3) in the regional championship Friday.
