Probable Cause Found At Haley Preliminary Hearing

A Viola man who’s facing 16 charges in a child porn investigation, met the alleged victim through the local pageant system. That testimony this morning from Illinois State Police special agent Walt Willis during the preliminary hearing for 44 year old James Eric Haley, who ran a photography business. Willis was the only person to testify today, where probable cause was found to hold Haley over for trial. He was arrested last month following a search warrant executed at his home. Haley faces a single Class X felony, one Class 2 felony and 14 Class 1 felonies.  He has entered not guilty pleas to the charges. The case involves one victim–a 15 year old girl with alleged offenses occurring in 2014 and 2015.  Class X felonies are punishable by 6-to-30 years in prison upon conviction with Class 1 felonies carrying a 4-to-15 year term and Class 2 felonies punishable by 3-to-7 years in prison. A pre-trial conference is set for next Monday in Mercer County Circuit Court. Haley remains in custody on $500,000 bond.
