Rockridge (32-1) senior shortstop Payton Brown hit her 25th home run of the season Tuesday, setting a new IHSA single-season record. The record-breaking home run came in the fourth inning of the Rockets 13-0 regional semifinal win over Princeton.

The previous record of 24 was held by two players, Goreville’s Taylor Odom (2012) and Schaumburg’s Elaine Walker (2015).

Brown’s 52 career home runs are the most all-time at Rockridge. She’s tied for seventh on the IHSA career home runs list.

Brown is hitting .591 with 25 home runs and 54 RBI in 2023.

The Rockets will play the winner of Kewanee vs Bureau Valley in the IHSA Class 2A Princeton Regional championship game Friday.
