Mercer County (25-7) defeated Farmington (12-13) 4-0 Tuesday to advance to the regional championship game at the IHSA 2A Brimfield Regional in softball.
Freshman pitcher Elsie Cook (16-4) earned the win, throwing a complete game shutout and allowing just two hits. Another freshman, Natalie Thomson drove in two runs with a two-out double in the second inning.
The Golden Eagles will play the winner of Brimfield-Elmwood vs IVC Friday in the regional championship game at 4:30 p.m., in Brimfield.
