Mercer County (1-0) won its season opener over Fulton (0-1) 50-30 at the 10 & 32 Tip-Off Classic in Orion Monday.
The Golden Eagles trailed 11-7 midway through the second quarter but went on a 21-0 run spanning the second and third quarters to pull away. Mercer County led by as many as 25 points in the fourth quarter of the win.
Brady McPeek scored a game-high 18 points for the Golden Eagles. Carson Boelens added 16 points in the victory. Braeden Brennan led Fulton with nine points in the loss.
Orion (1-0) also tipped off the season with a win, defeating Alleman (0-1) 61-42 Monday.
The Pioneers scored the game’s first basket to take an early 2-0 lead, but the Chargers led the rest of the game.
Orion’s biggest lead was 24 points in the second half.
Kyler Owens poured in 18 points for Orion. Maddux Arnold scored 15 points and Ryan DeBaillie had 12 in the win. Jack Wendt paced Alleman with 16 points.
